Hot weather arrived to Chicago so it's time to please the sweet tooth with a nice cooling treat. This desert is my favorite and you can have it as a healthy snack too. It's low in carbs, rich in protein and made of only clean ingredients. Have you ever had carob? It is a nice alternative to chocolate for some as it is caffeine-free and contains antioxidants as well as calcium, iron, potassium, and fiber.
Carob or locust tree, native to the Mediterranean region is a resilient tree resistant to harsh climate and drought. Both, in the Talmud and Bible, it is mentioned numerous times as a St. John's Bread. And it is traditionally eaten for the Jewish holiday of Tu Bishvat and Muslims drink Carob juice known as Kharoub during Ramadan to prevent dehydration.
Interestingly the term "carat" alludes to the practice of weighing gold and gemstones against the seeds of the carob tree by people in the ancient Middle East.
Travelling is lot of fun, however, a change of routine, diet, timezone, and climate causes irregularity in the body and mind. Fortunately, Ayurveda provides some smart and simple preparations before you hit the road to ensure that your body and mind will function smoothly. The main focus is on balancing Vata dosha, which is in its essence dry and light. Therefore lubrication and grounding is the key. Vata governs all kinds of movements in the body and due to its inherent mobile quality, travel tends to aggravate this dosha and bring it out of its optimal state. This may cause many unwanted side effects including constipation, bloating, increased anxiety, stress and poor sleep. Learn about the Ayurvedic Travel Survival Kit for Vata Dosha here.
