What is Ayurvedic medicine?  How can you benefit from it?

Ayurveda in Sanskrit literally translates as “the science of life” or “wisdom of life.” I call it a "living wisdom", because it truly lives with me in my everyday routines and it takes care of my physical and emotional well-being and overall balance day by day, as the seasons change.

Ayurveda is an ancient medicinal system that originated in India over 5,000 years ago and it includes a system of herbal healing similar to the traditional Chinese medicine, while in addition it offers nutritional and lifestyle guidelines, yoga, bodywork treatments, gentle cleanses and much more. I find all modalities of Ayurveda being essential to a modern human living in a busy, hectic environment in order to maintain inner peace of mind and good health of the body.

Perfect health is viewed more than the pure absence of disease. According to Ayurveda, being healthy is a state of balance, radiant beauty and energy, which is achieved by keeping moderation in food intake, sleep, exercise, relaxed mind and other activities of daily life, sometimes if needed complemented by various holistic treatments and medicinal herbs.

The mind and body are in constant connection and interaction.

Ayurveda emphasizes the indivisible connections and interactions between the body, mind, and spirit. Ayurveda promotes the ongoing processes of self-repair and healing by understanding one’s individual constitution and current imbalance of doshas. Doshas are energetic forces of nature, functional principles that help us to better understand ourselves, and the world around us. Ayurveda recognizes three doshas: Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. These doshas are physio-psychological energies found throughout the human body and mind. They are responsible for governing of all physical and mental processes and functions.

What can you expect in your Ayurvedic Session?

Ayurveda provides holistic preventative and curative medicine. I consult individuals who are healthy, who wish to live a longer life and perhaps increase their energy or boost their immunity. I also work with those who come with manifesting symptoms of various conditions. My approach is to determine “the root” or the underlying cause of the imbalance, that creates the symptoms. After the cause is identified, during the session, I will offer you personal advice on the most suitable diet, supporting lifestyle, and herbal treatments for any symptoms you deal with or even just for a healthier, happier life. Through tongue, pulse, eye, face, nail and other Ayurvedic readings, I will assess your imbalance of your doshas and suggest the following steps from that perspective. All suggestions are discussed before being implemented to assure you can integrate them, that means eg. if you do not want to avoid meat, I will consider this and won't advise to go vegetarian. To give you another example, many clients ask me if they have to eat spicy curry when they see me for their first session. They assume it is a staple of India and therefore Indian medicine will recommend this. Well, that is not the case, your diet might be adjusted a little if needed, however you can keep most of your eating Western habits with only little shifts.
